artistic anachronisms versus moving...
me: i feel an odd juxtaposition because i like the evasion book you showed me and the idea of the poor artisan and such but i like the mobile internet and tech like that. i hope this stuff trickles down into everybody's life
i guess it will. a lot of homeless people ive seen have cell phones
wes: haha yeah im exactly the same way
i have too and its really wierd
but the vagrants-by-choice usually don't
me: yeah. i dont think its cognitive dissonance when i say the two worlds arent mutually exclusive. if anything, poor artists should be thrilled by the internet and the ease by which it enables more mediums - video, photos, text, etc. are all very equal
wes: the internet does do that, and i think poor artists who dont have iphones do so by choice to be old tymey
me: yeah
thanks for putting your finger on that. it's this attraction for anachronisms that "gets in the way", as beautiful as the ideas are
they balance though, im convinced.
you always build the new off the old, right? culturally, artistically, etc.?
wes: well sure. but in their defense it sure is a lot easier to write music against a tree with an acoustic than hunkered down in a garage with an electric!
me: yea, that's true, and i wouldnt disagree with the grace and pleasure of that
im just saying they could have a digital recorder in their pocket if they wanted .... that had wifi so they could blog their song immediately
lol
wes: haha thats a good point!
